Nsongo's Late Winner Completes Deportivo's Comeback Over Osasuna, 2–1

Deportivo trailed at Riazor, levelled from a Mario Soriano free kick, and won it at 87 minutes through Bil Nsongo — a first league win after six winless La Liga matches.

Deportivo were a goal down at home, winless in six matches, and doing it the hard way — again. Then the last half hour at Riazor flipped the whole night: an equaliser at 64 minutes, and a winner at 87 that gave the home crowd of 26,831 a first league win in seven matches, 2–1 over Osasuna on La Liga Matchday 11.

UPDATE — Tuesday, November 3, 2026: This match report now carries the official highlights from ESPN Deportes beside the winner below, and a By the Numbers note linking The Breakdown pages for the men who decided it.

The cruel part is that Deportivo should have led early. The home side were the more comfortable team from the start, camped around Osasuna's area — but Yeremay Hernández wasted two clear one-on-ones with goalkeeper Sergio Herrera: the first with one touch too many on the ball, the second by tying himself in knots after robbing Catena. In the Primera División, chances like that get punished, and per Riazor.org's crónica of the match, Deportivo have made a habit of punishing themselves.

So it proved at 32 minutes. Goalkeeper Leo Román's erratic clearance with his feet handed Osasuna the opening — the ball fell loose in the home side's own half — and Ante Budimir, lethal as ever, finished it for 0–1. Some in the stands applauded the effort; others whistled. On the touchline, Hidalgo wore the look of a coach watching his team shoot itself in the foot one more time.

But this Deportivo side does not stop insisting. Luismi Cruz tried to bend a lateral free kick inside the far post and was denied only by the crossbar — the woodwork alone saved Herrera from fishing the ball out of his net. The pressure kept building. Adama Traoré entered just before the hour, his influence growing by the week, and at 64 minutes the equaliser arrived: Mario Soriano, who had been in the thick of everything, levelled with a perfect finish from the edge of the area — the queue's scoring record credits it as a free kick — and Riazor believed again.

The stadium erupted a second time when Aubameyang came off the bench, back in record time and just in time to give his teammates the final push. The winner, at 87 minutes, came from exactly that surge: Adama crossed, Aubameyang — the No. 7 — got his head to it, Herrera produced a spectacular save, and Bil Nsongo buried the loose ball. 2–1. Riazor smiling again after six matchdays without a win to celebrate.

The two sides had arrived level on 11 points from 10 matches each, which is what makes the swing matter: Deportivo end the night above the visitors they beat, with the winless run — six La Liga matches without a victory — finally over. The men who settled it are all in The Breakdown. Bil Nsongo's page carries the season behind the 87th-minute winner, and Mario Soriano's the season behind the equaliser. The move that forced the winner ran through Adama Traoré's cross and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's header, and both of their sheets are in the hub too. The goal that started the night belongs to the visitors — Ante Budimir's Breakdown page is where his finishing record lives.
