Burrow Threw for 462. Minshew Stole Dallas. Sunday Needed Two Overtimes.

Week 8's Sunday slate delivered two overtime classics — the Bengals' 43-36 escape and the Cardinals' 33-30 stunner in Dallas — plus a franchise record in Buffalo, a 35-point rout in Jacksonville and a shutout in Tampa.

Some Sundays are about one game. This one refused to pick. Week 8 gave the league two overtime classics on the same afternoon — one in Cincinnati, where Joe Burrow threw the ball all over the yard and then had to win the game with his legs, and one in Dallas, where the Arizona Cardinals trailed by two touchdowns, changed quarterbacks in the third quarter and walked out with a win nobody in the building saw coming. Around those two, Buffalo set a franchise record while dismantling Baltimore, Jacksonville hung 42 on Indianapolis, Tampa Bay pitched a shutout, and the trade deadline — Tuesday, November 10, at 4 p.m. ET — got louder with every injury report. Here is how Sunday actually went.

Burrow refused to lose a game he kept almost losing

Start in Cincinnati, because there is nowhere else to start. The Bengals beat the Tennessee Titans 43–36 in overtime at Paycor Stadium, and the box score reads like a video game with the difficulty set wrong. Burrow completed 38 of 48 passes for 462 yards and five touchdowns, according to Pro Football Reference's Week 8 leaders page, and then finished the job himself, rushing nine yards for the winning touchdown on the first possession of overtime. Athlon Sports reported that Cincinnati piled up 510 total yards, scored touchdowns on five of its six red-zone trips — and needed nearly every one of them.

Why did the Bengals need all of it? Because Burrow also threw three interceptions, all of them to Tennessee safety Amani Hooker, and because the Titans — 1–7, playing their first game since trading Jeffery Simmons to Chicago — refused to behave like a one-win team. Tennessee led 13–0 in the first quarter, went ahead twice more in the fourth, and got 304 passing yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions from Cam Ward and 117 rushing yards and two scores from Tony Pollard, Athlon Sports reported. Tee Higgins caught 10 of his 11 targets for 155 yards and two touchdowns, the second an 18-yarder in the final two minutes that tied the game at 36. Ja'Marr Chase added 11 catches for 141 yards and a touchdown. "We're finding ways to win right now," Burrow said after the game, in comments reported by Athlon Sports. "That's more (than) you can say for the last couple of years." The Bengals are 5–2. The ways are not always pretty. They count the same.

Minshew magic, broken ribs and all

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Gardner Minshew II, wearing No. 15, rolls out against the Dallas Cowboys during the third quarter at AT&T Stadium on November 1, 2026.

If Cincinnati was chaos, Dallas was theatre. Arizona's 33–30 overtime win over the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium had everything: a 17–3 hole, a benching, a backup quarterback dealing, a receiver gutting it out on two broken ribs, a missed extra point that should have ended it in regulation — and then a 42-yard Chad Ryland field goal in overtime that ended it anyway. The Cardinals' own site, azcardinals.com, told the story plainly: Gardner Minshew II came off the bench for a struggling Jacoby Brissett and threw three second-half touchdown passes, the last of them to Michael Wilson with six seconds left. Minshew finished 17 of 23 for 188 yards; Brissett, sacked four times, had gone 10 of 23 for 119 yards and an interception.

Wilson's line deserves its own paragraph. Playing through two broken ribs — a fact reported by The Arizona Republic and Arizona Sports — he caught eight passes for 111 yards, added a 17-yard run on a jet sweep in overtime, and hauled in the tying touchdown while, in the Cardinals' telling, getting up slowly after almost every catch. "You want the real answer? I'm ecstatic that we won, but physically, not too good," Wilson said, via azcardinals.com. "Pain is temporary, glory is forever. I'll take the rib pain for a win for the Arizona Cardinals." Tyler Allgeier, the last healthy back standing after Jeremiyah Love and Bam Knight left hurt, ran for a career-high 147 yards on just 11 carries, including a 63-yard touchdown, Athlon Sports reported. And the defense did its part: Dallas, which according to Cardinals Wire totaled just 261 yards and 3.6 yards per play, never led by more than two scores and went three-and-out in overtime when a field goal would have won it. Arizona (3–5) has now won five straight against Dallas (3–5). Minshew's verdict on the whole afternoon, via the Cardinals: "You just keep going. It's not like it was the first adversity we had in the day."

The blowouts: a record in Buffalo, a rout in Jacksonville

Buffalo's 36–10 win over Baltimore was a statement with a milestone inside it. Reuters reported that Josh Allen set the Bills' franchise record for career touchdown passes and also rushed for a score, completing 21 of 34 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns as Buffalo (6–1) won its third straight. The other half of that game — Lamar Jackson lost on the first offensive play, backup Tyler Huntley lost after him, and a season suddenly in the balance — is a story of its own, and we told it in full here. The Ravens (4–4) have lost three straight and host Jacksonville on Thursday night, which brings us to the Jaguars.

Jacksonville's 42–7 dismantling of the Indianapolis Colts at EverBank Stadium was the day's biggest margin, and the Florida Times-Union's game rewind filled in the texture: Trevor Lawrence threw for 210 yards and three touchdowns with a 153.3 passer rating, Bhayshul Tuten produced 159 all-purpose yards — 104 rushing with a touchdown, plus a 25-yard catch-and-run score — and safety Rayuan Lane III returned an interception 92 yards for his first NFL touchdown. The Times-Union noted Jacksonville has now scored at least 34 points in seven straight home games, matching the longest such streak in NFL history, and has beaten the Colts at home in 12 straight seasons. The Jaguars are 5–2 and, per the same report, head to Baltimore on a short week with the Ravens' quarterback room in pieces. Timing is a skill, too.

Sunday belonged to two quarterbacks: the one who threw for 462 yards and still needed overtime, and the one who passed Jim Kelly in the Bills' record book. The Stats Hub's 2026 season board puts their years side by side.

Around the rest of the board

The rest of Sunday, quickly and honestly. Pittsburgh beat Cleveland 27–6 to move to 6–2. New England went to Miami and won 24–19 behind Drake Maye, who, according to Patriots Wire, went 16 of 20 for 199 yards and two passing touchdowns and added a rushing score as the Patriots reached five wins. The Rams won the battle of Los Angeles, 24–9 over a Chargers team still looking for its first win, with Rams Wire noting the defense allowed only three field goals and no touchdowns. Green Bay opened the week on Thursday by beating Carolina 27–19. Three more finals already have their own Previously stories, because they earned them: Detroit ended Minnesota's perfect start, 19–15; Tampa Bay shut out Atlanta 16–0; Las Vegas outlasted the Jets 38–33 in a shootout; Denver held off Kansas City 28–24; and Washington scored the last 27 points to beat Philadelphia 27–10 on Sunday night, the Eagles' sixth straight loss.

The deadline just got louder

All of this lands eight days before the November 10 trade deadline, and Sunday rewrote several teams' shopping lists. Washington defensive tackle Daron Payne fractured his foot in Friday's practice — a Jones fracture that requires surgery and ends his season, according to Giants Wire, which reported via NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that the New York Giants had trade interest in Payne before the injury. Philadelphia, spiraling at 2–6, will not be trading Saquon Barkley: Reuters reported, via NFL Network, that the Eagles plan to keep their star back, who has two years and roughly $35 million left on his deal. Cincinnati's win came at a cost on the edge — Bengals Wire reported defensive ends Cashius Howell (wrist) and Cedric Johnson (ankle) were both ruled out mid-game, deepening the Bengals' need with the deadline eight days out. And Baltimore, having lost two quarterbacks in one afternoon, needs one immediately, with Thursday's game against Jacksonville first in the queue.

One more tonight

Week 8 has a final act. The Chicago Bears (5–2) play the Seattle Seahawks (4–3) at Lumen Field on Monday night (8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN) in the cleanest strength-on-strength matchup of the week: the league's best rushing attack against a defense that has not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 36 straight games. It is the only game left on the Week 8 slate. After a Sunday like this one, the bar for Monday is not low.
