The friendliest mountain in gaming is about to get a lot more crowded. PEAK, the cooperative climbing hit that took over PC last year, arrives on consoles on Thursday, October 22, 2026 as a Complete Edition for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, according to GamingBolt's October 16 report on the announcement. Console players are not getting a year-old port and a promise to catch up. The Complete Edition folds in every update the game has received so far — new biomes and new items included at no extra cost — adds crossplay across platforms, and even includes a buddy code so an owner can pull a friend up the mountain with them. For a game whose entire appeal is grabbing the people next to you, that last detail is not a bonus. It is the whole pitch, printed on the box.

Why PEAK climbed so fast on PC

To understand why this console launch matters, it helps to remember what PEAK did on PC. The game blew up last year from a simple, instantly readable premise: you and your friends wash up on a mysterious island, and the only way home is up. Players scavenge supplies from the shore and the slopes, then climb the island's highest mountain to send an SOS from the summit. There is no villain, no invasion, no world to save — just a very large rock, a shrinking pile of snacks, and the friends who keep insisting the route they found is definitely fine. AltChar, reporting on the console announcement, noted the game has sold more than 10 million copies on Steam since its June 2025 launch, a staggering figure for a scrappy co-op project, and the reason is baked into the design: every run generates stories, and stories are the most shareable currency a game can mint.

The mountain helps by refusing to sit still. As GamingBolt describes the loop, the island's landscape shifts daily, so the climb you memorized yesterday is not the climb waiting today. Routes have to be re-planned, supplies re-counted and roles re-argued on every attempt. That single decision turns a short game into a ritual — the daily mountain becomes a standing appointment for a friend group, the same way a daily puzzle thread does, except somebody occasionally falls off a cliff in full view of everyone, which, socially speaking, is even better.

What the Complete Edition includes

The console package is deliberately the whole game as it exists now. Per GamingBolt, the Complete Edition includes all updates released so far, with the new biomes and items folded in free rather than sold back as downloadable content. That matters more than it might sound: PEAK's updates have meaningfully changed what a climb looks like, and a split player base — launch-version climbers on one side, updated climbers on the other — would have fractured exactly the friend groups the game depends on. Instead, everyone who buys in on October 22 starts from the same summit of content. The included buddy code pushes the same philosophy from the other direction: instead of hoping your friends buy the game, the edition hands you a way to bring one along, lowering the hardest barrier any co-op game faces, which is never the price of one copy. It is coordinating four.

Crossplay completes the set. GamingBolt confirms players can set up sessions across platforms, which means the friend on a Switch 2, the friend on a PS5 and the PC veteran who has been climbing since last summer can finally share a rope. For a game sold entirely on who you climb with, platform walls were always an artificial difficulty spike, and removing them on day one is the single smartest decision in this edition.

A natural fit for the couch — and for Halloween week

Some PC hits land on console like tourists. PEAK reads like a native. Its bright, charming art style — sunny slopes, storybook colors, characters with the cheerful wobble of a Saturday-morning cartoon — is built to be read at a glance from across a living room, and its sessions are built around short, loud, self-contained attempts rather than hundred-hour commitments. Teamwork, coordination and route-planning carry every run, according to GamingBolt's description, and those are social skills a couch full of people exercises very differently from a voice channel: somebody can point at the screen. Somebody always does.

The timing is friendly, too. October 22 drops PEAK into the heart of the Halloween-week calendar, when living rooms are already gathering and the release schedule tilts toward horror. A colorful co-op climber is a genuine counter-programming option for mixed groups — the friends who love games, the friends who love watching games go wrong, and the one friend who claims not to like games at all and then climbs for three hours. AltChar also reported that a physical PlayStation 5 edition follows on December 9, which tells you the studios expect this edition to have a holiday life well beyond launch week. If your group's autumn needs a mountain, this is the week to pick one. More coverage lives on the Previously Games page.
