Thirty years after Reasonable Doubt, Jay-Z closed his JAŸ-Z30 anniversary run the Los Angeles way. The two sold-out nights at SoFi Stadium on October 23 and 24 came with a capsule built with The Marathon Clothing — the Crenshaw house Nipsey Hussle founded — tying the biggest stage in the city back to the corner of Crenshaw and Slauson. Hip-HopVibe reported the collaboration as the merch moment of the LA finale, and it is already moving: preorders are open, and the window at The Marathon's own store closes November 6.
The capsule is two pieces deep. The Marathon Clothing Tee ($70) carries a young Hov on the front — the vest photo, framed like a poster — and the back reads like a ticket stub: JAŸ-Z30, OCT 23-24, SOFI STADIUM, LOS ANGELES, with Marathon scripted underneath and the house's red hem tag at the bottom. The Marathon Clothing Crewneck ($150) takes the same back print in black. Both pieces are listed through Roc Nation's store, and The Marathon Clothing is taking preorders in its own shop under a banner counting down to November 6.
JAŸ-Z30 is the year-long mark of 30 years since Reasonable Doubt (1996) — and 25 since The Blueprint. The run hit Yankee Stadium in July, then London and Paris, before closing at SoFi. Night one brought out Blue Ivy Carter, Scarface, John Legend and DJ Khaled; night two answered with Too $hort, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Per DancehallMag, the Los Angeles shows also made room for a tribute to Nipsey Hussle — which is exactly what makes the Marathon capsule more than merch-table math.
The Marathon Clothing is Nipsey Hussle's house in the literal sense: he opened the store in 2017 at Crenshaw and Slauson as a working piece of the ownership economics he rapped about — buy the block, employ the neighborhood, keep the value home. Jay-Z's respect for that blueprint is not new. In 2013, when Nipsey sold his Crenshaw mixtape at $100 a copy, Jay-Z bought 100 of them. Thirteen years later, for the biggest Los Angeles weekend of his anniversary year, Hov put the Marathon name on the back of the shirt. "The Marathon Continues" is the house's own phrase for carrying the work forward — and this capsule is that sentence, worn.
It has been a year of the house's name traveling. In April, adidas released the Harden Vol. 10 "Marathon" — a TMC collaboration in full Crenshaw blue at $160 — and per Black Enterprise, it sold out the day it dropped. The JAŸ-Z30 capsule is the same pattern at stadium scale: the Marathon as a partner, not a print.
Jay-Z's anniversary run has had other partners — Hip-HopVibe reported a Fear of God capsule in the mix, with Hov wearing its Reasonable Doubt tee at the London installation opening in September, and Mitchell & Ness and Paper Planes built collections for the New York and Los Angeles stops. Those are the wider pattern. But the LA finale belongs to the Marathon: preorders run through November 6 at The Marathon Clothing's shop. Thirty years of Reasonable Doubt on one side, Crenshaw and Slauson on the other — the marathon continues.
