Clear the backlog — it's about to get worse. Forty new games are landing on Xbox consoles over the next seven days, spanning big-budget sequels, strategy remasters, story-driven RPGs, retro shooters and indie originals. Five of them hit Game Pass on day one. The week opens quietly today with just two releases, then detonates Tuesday with the trio everyone will be talking about.
01 Tuesday's Big Three
October 13 is the day to watch. Planet Zoo 2 from Frontier Developments is the headline act — the zoo management sequel adds fully aquatic and flying species for the first time, plus customizable Wildlife Reserves for the conservation-minded. Right beside it: Valor Mortis, a hardcore dark action RPG in the soulslike mold with one of the wildest premises of the year — you are William, a soldier of Napoleon's Grande Armée, risen from a battlefield grave into a plague-swept Europe with corrupting power in your veins. Rounding out the day is Deep Dish Dungeon, an underground adventure for the roguelike crowd.
02 The Rest of the Week
Wednesday delivers Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2, the retro-shooter sequel, and the week keeps rolling with the space city-builder Beyond These Stars, the gladiatorial roguelike Chained Beasts, the long-awaited Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, a remastered Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition, and updated Toy Story 3 and Toy Story: Retro Roundup editions for the Disney crowd. Horror fans get Tenebris Somnia on Friday, October 16.
03 Out Today
Don't sleep on Monday's pair. Alpha Nomos is a rhythm-action roguelite — play as Cello, slice through an army of rogue puppets, and time every attack to the beat for show-stopping combos. If the combat-pulses-to-the-soundtrack pitch gives you Hi-Fi Rush flashbacks, you're not alone. And Colorbound is the cozy counterweight: a vibrant palette-platformer where you play Anku, reuniting his late grandfather's band by using color to shape the world. Two charmers, two completely different moods — a decent Monday by any measure.
A Napoleonic soulslike, a zoo sim with flying animals, and a rhythm roguelite in the same week — this is the October release calendar at its best. Valor Mortis is the swing to watch: that premise either produces an all-timer or a glorious mess, and both are worth the Game Pass download.
