The mode now called Clubs started in FIFA 09 as FIFA 09 Clubs tied to Be a Pro: 10v10 Online Team Play — up to 20 players on 20 consoles, each locked to one footballer, in clubs of up to 50 friends ranked in divisions with promotion and relegation. That one-player-one-position idea is its identity: your Virtual Pro grows by playing matches in your role, not by opening packs.
Over the years it gained drop-in matches, deeper customisation, PlayStyles slots and cross-play within console generations, and it was renamed simply Clubs for the FC era. FC 25 integrated Rush as a 5v5 way to play with the same club and progression, and FC 27 folds Clubs into its new social hub, The Grounds, on current-generation platforms.
