THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2026 — If your watchlist wasn’t already a problem, today made it worse. The Kardashians return to Hulu tonight for season 8, Netflix handed Bridgerton fans the spinoff they’ve been begging for, and broadcast TV is stacking premieres like it’s 2009 again. Here’s everything that matters today — and what’s actually worth your time.
The Kardashians are back — and Kim’s health is the storyline
Per PageSix’s premiere guide, season 8 drops at 12 a.m. ET tonight on Hulu — also available on Hulu through Disney+ for bundle subscribers, with Disney+ carrying it internationally — and new episodes land every Thursday. Ten episodes total, running through Dec. 10, with the premiere titled “Slap the S*** Outta Her,” per PageSix’s episode rundown. It’s been just over a year since season 7, and Hulu’s official logline promises “a new chapter” built around “love, reinvention, and what comes next.”
The trailer, which Hulu released Sept. 17, wastes no time. Its most-discussed moment: Kim tells her family she has esophagitis — inflammation of the esophagus lining — and the trailer pointedly raises the family history, with someone off camera asking whether that’s what her father died of. She says yes; Robert Kardashian Sr. died in 2003. Enstarz, breaking down the trailer, was careful to note what the footage does and doesn’t establish: Kim names a condition, but the trailer shows no severity, cause, treatment plan, or outcome — and esophagitis is a distinct condition from esophageal cancer. Later shots show Kim in a hospital gown being wheeled away for what appears to be a procedure, and Kris says it makes her want to cry. How the season resolves it — and how much is trailer editing — is what tonight starts answering.
Around that heavier storyline, the trailer is pure Kardashian chaos. Kendall finally addresses the long-running Cara Delevingne dating rumor head-on — she said in the trailer, per Just Jared’s breakdown: “There’s definitely a rumor that Cara and I like dated, which is not true,” she says in a confessional, before she added backstage with Cara herself, per the same trailer footage: “By the way, I have nothing against having sex with Cara. Never say never, right?” Khloé declares she’s single and “might be ready to mingle.” Kourtney insists her priority is her kids — she said in her confessional, per TV Insider’s trailer breakdown: “My biggest priority right now is my kids, and I’m very happy with my life” — while Kim said in her own interview: “She doesn’t know how to have friends, hang out with sisters, it’s sad.” Scott Disick and Caitlyn Jenner pop up in the footage, and the trailer’s most meme-able beat might be Khloé asking Kris to be her surrogate — “I wanted to know … would you have my baby?” — and Kris replied, per TV Insider’s breakdown of the footage: “Have you lost your mind?”
Netflix’s morning surprise: a Violet Bridgerton prequel
This morning brought the day’s biggest TV announcement: Netflix and Shondaland are developing a limited-series Bridgerton spinoff chronicling the early life of a young Lady Violet and her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton — the love story that started the whole family. Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini will write, showrun, and executive produce, with Tom Verica directing. It’s the second Bridgerton spinoff after 2023’s Queen Charlotte, and the one fans have been asking for for years. We broke down everything we know — the creative team, the casting question, and why Violet is the right choice — in our full story: Netflix Just Gave Lady Violet Her Own Bridgerton Spinoff.

Tonight on broadcast: SVU reaches season 28
The broadcast networks are treating Thursday like an event again. NBC premieres Law & Order season 26 at 10 p.m. and Law & Order: SVU season 28 at 9 p.m. — SVU remains the longest-running primetime live-action series in American television history, and it’s not particularly close. CBS counters with a full stack: Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 3 at 8, Eternally Yours at 8:30, Elsbeth season 4 at 9, and the new drama Cupertino at 10. If you’re picking one: Elsbeth remains the critics’ favorite of the bunch.
This weekend’s drops are loaded
Friday, Oct. 9 is stacked. Apple TV gets Matchbox: The Movie, the John Cena action-comedy from Extraction director Sam Hargrave based on the Mattel toy brand — Cena plays an ex-soldier pulled back in with childhood friends over a missing nuke, co-starring Jessica Biel and Teyonah Parris. (We covered the first look here.) In theaters, Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning arrives — full preview here. HBO closes out the JAY-Z IN 8 docuseries with a two-episode finale at 8 p.m. And Netflix unloads for Halloween season: Haunted Hotel season 2 (an eight-episode binge), Is It Cake?
