GTA VI: Crazy But True — The Countdown

Seventeen days to Grand Theft Auto VI. One verified, receipted, absolutely unhinged thing the game lets you do — every day until launch. Day 17: you can weaponize a bag of dog shit.

The Short Version

Grand Theft Auto VI is seventeen days out. On Thursday, November 19, Leonida opens — and between now and then, this page grows by one entry a day. The series is called Crazy But True, and the name is the whole editorial policy: every day brings one thing the game lets you do that sounds made up, except it isn't. Each claim has to clear two bars. It has to be crazy — small, physical, absurd, the kind of detail nobody puts in a trailer sizzle reel. And it has to be true — receipted to official Rockstar material, a developer saying it on the record, or named outlets reporting an invited preview at Rockstar North.

That second bar is doing real work. The internet's GTA VI discourse runs on the 2022 leak and a thousand speculation channels, and none of it lives here. Claims that couldn't be receipted — a returning six-star wanted level, playable hurricanes as a full storm system, dogs that predict lottery numbers — sit on a bench, in writing, and the bench never publishes. What you get instead is the verified absurd: the systems Rockstar's own people demonstrated, described, or handed to other shows as finished gameplay. If you want the reported shape of the game itself, our Game Informer cover-story breakdown is the briefing; this page is the countdown, and the full GTA hub lives at Previously's GTA page. Newest day sits on top. Come back tomorrow — the pile grows.

You Can Weaponize a Bag of Dog Shit

Start with the benchmark — the claim this whole series is calibrated against. In GTA VI, dogs do what dogs do, in public, on Leonida's sidewalks and beaches. Their owners, being responsible citizens, bag it. And then the simulation keeps going, because Rockstar built the entire chain: you can walk up and punch the owner. He drops the bag. You can pick the bag up. And you can throw the dog shit at people.

Five steps — dog, owner, punch, bag, throw — every one of them a real interaction, none of it a cutscene. This is not a mod, not a rumor, not a fan's fever dream about emergent systems. It is a mechanic the developer described out loud, on purpose, as a thing they built.

Receipt one: Rob Nelson, co-head of Rockstar North, explained the mechanic on the record to the creator TGG during an invited visit to the studio in August 2026 — wait for the owner to bag the dog's mess, hit him so he drops it, then pick the bag up and throw it at people. Kotaku's headline for its own report of the session does not bury the lede — "You Can Pet The Dog In GTA 6 And Also Throw Its Poop At NPCs" — and Dexerto and Beebom carried the same detail in their August 28, 2026 coverage of the visit.

Receipt two is stranger: you may have already watched it happen. Rockstar supplied actual GTA VI gameplay of this mechanic to South Park, and the Season 29 episode that aired October 28, 2026 plays it out — a German Shepherd does its business on a beach, the owner bags it, and Jason provokes the owner before smashing the bag into his face. GameSpot's account of the episode notes the mess bursts into smaller chunks on impact and the victim recoils with his face covered. The episode's end credits thank Rockstar Games for the footage. That is Polygon's reporting of October 29, 2026 — a receipt with a broadcast date.

Why does this lead the countdown? Because it's the whole design philosophy in one disgusting little chain. In the same preview sessions, Nelson described a much larger interaction system underneath it — a Leonida where objects behave like objects, where what an NPC is holding matters, where the world keeps simulating the unglamorous physical stuff other games cut. The dog bag is simply the funniest proof. Any studio can render a sunset. This one simulated the bag.

The receipts: Kotaku (August 2026), reporting Rob Nelson's on-record description to TGG at Rockstar North; Dexerto and Beebom (August 28, 2026), same session. Polygon (October 29, 2026) and GameSpot on the South Park Season 29 episode (aired October 28, 2026) featuring Rockstar-supplied gameplay, with Rockstar Games thanked in the credits.

Tomorrow — Day 16: the countdown turns to a sense no game has ever simulated properly. Your nose works in Leonida. Unfortunately.
