LOS ANGELES
Brazil settled its business the hard way, and then the bracket gods got to work. LOS edged FURIA 3-2 on Saturday to win the CBLOL 2026 Split 2 title, locking up Brazil's first seed and a direct ticket to the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage. Minutes after the final nexus fell, the Play-In draw set the last four teams in the tournament against each other: FURIA vs MVK Esports and Cloud9 Kia vs Karmine Corp. One of these four teams goes to the Swiss Stage. The other three go home.
Let's be clear about what the Play-In is, because Riot has made it gloriously brutal. Four teams. A double-elimination bracket. Every series a best-of-five. Lose twice and you're out — and with only one survivor, there is no margin for an off day. The draw was fully random, with no seeding pots or regional restrictions, so any team could have drawn any other. The order of the opening matches hasn't been confirmed yet.
The four teams in the pit:
FURIA (CBLOL #2) — the runners-up from Saturday's final. They just played a five-game war with LOS and came up one game short. That's either the best possible preparation or the worst possible emotional hangover. There is no in-between. FURIA opens against MVK Esports (LCP #3), the Asia-Pacific third seed — a team with nothing to lose and a region that has produced giant-killers before.
Cloud9 Kia (LCS #3) — North America's third seed, and this is where it gets spicy. C9 draws Karmine Corp (LEC #3), Europe's third seed, in a West-on-West grudge match to open. NA vs EU with a Swiss Stage berth on the line is the kind of series that will have both fanbases unbearable on social media for a week. This is, by a mile, the series to watch in the Play-In.

The Play-In runs October 15–18 at Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles, with match days starting at 11 AM PT. The survivor joins the 15 teams already qualified directly for the Swiss Stage, which begins October 23. The Swiss draw happens October 18, right after Play-Ins end, and Riot has split the 16 teams into four tiers for Round 1: Tier 1 is Gen.G, Anyone's Legend, Team Liquid Alienware and G2 Esports; Tier 2 is LOS (Brazil's first seed), Team Secret Whales, Hanwha Life Esports and Bilibili Gaming; Tier 3 is LYON, Movistar KOI, T1 and TOP Esports; Tier 4 is CTBC Flying Oyster, Invictus Gaming, Dplus Kia and the Play-In winner. Tier 1 faces Tier 4 and Tier 2 faces Tier 3 in Round 1, with no same-region matchups. From there it's three wins to reach the Knockout Stage, three losses to go home.
That tier list is worth staring at. T1 — winners of the last three World Championships and six titles overall — sitting in Tier 3 is a reminder that this year's field has no clean favorite. Gen.G ended the year as LCK champions and look like the team to beat, but they've been favorites at the last two Worlds and failed. The LPL's Bilibili Gaming dominated all year until Anyone's Legend took the Summer Split final. The West's hopes ride on G2 and Team Liquid, and G2 has wins over Gen.G, TES and T1 this year — followed by 3-0 sweeps out of First Stand and MSI. Chaos is the baseline.
And if you want skin in the game beyond vibes: Worlds Pick'Ems opened today at 4 PM PT at lolesports.com/pickems (also inside the LoL client), sponsored by AWS. Play-In and Crystal Ball picks are open now and lock before the first match on October 15 at 11 AM PT. Swiss picks open October 18, Knockout picks October 31. The rewards this year are headlined by the True Damage Know My Name Yasuo skin (plus champion unlock), with a True Damage icon and emote, a True Damage Ekko emote, a hot dog emote and a Nasus icon in the mix. Rewards go out within 48 hours of the November 14 final.

That final is November 14 in Brooklyn, New York — with True Damage set to perform at the opening ceremony at the Barclays Center, and the commemorative True Damage Know My Name Yasuo skin already in the game. The Knockout Stage runs November 3–9, quarterfinals through semifinals, all best-of-fives.
So here's the next five days: C9 vs KC and FURIA vs MVK, all Bo5s, double elimination, one chair left when the music stops. The Swiss Stage draw is October 18. And somewhere in Los Angeles this week, one of these four teams is about to have the best or worst week of its year.
Opened Oct 10, 4 PM PT at lolesports.com/pickems. Top reward: True Damage Know My Name Yasuo skin. Final: Nov 14, Brooklyn.
