'Yellowjackets' Final Season First Images: The Rescue Is Only the Beginning

Most survival stories end at the rescue. Yellowjackets has always insisted the rescue is the middle. With the fourth and final season set to premiere November 20 on Paramount+ with Showtime, a rolling release of first-look images — anchored by an exclusive PEOPLE first look and continued in Bleeding Cool's October 13 TV coverage — is sketching how the series plans to land: the teenagers come home, the adults keep unraveling, and a wave of new faces, several of them 1990s icons in a show obsessed with the decade, arrives to complicate both timelines.

The New Faces, Identified

PEOPLE's exclusive first look named the newcomers and their roles, and ComingSoon confirmed the same details in its coverage of the images. Molly Ringwald plays Vicky, seen in one image watching television with snack bowls alongside her daughter, teen Van Palmer, played by Liv Hewson. Drawing on Deadline's earlier casting reporting, PEOPLE described Vicky as a recently recovered alcoholic doing her best to course-correct her past — which positions her, pointedly, as a parent trying to repair things at exactly the moment her daughter returns from nineteen months of wilderness horror.

June Squibb, at 96, plays Geraldine, photographed with Christina Ricci's present-day Misty Quigley; character details beyond the pairing remain under wraps. Devon Sawa plays Howard in the past timeline, seen behind the wheel of a car with Sophie Thatcher's teen Natalie beside him — a casting wink the show surely intends, since Sawa and Ricci were co-stars in Casper, a 1995 touchstone for the show's target nostalgia. The images also identify Sam Braun as a teenage Jeff Sadecki, Dulé Hill as Detective Rollins, and Ken Marino as Russell, opposite Jaylee Hamidi's Alex.

The Rescue, Covered Like News

The freshest material, in Bleeding Cool's October 13 dispatch, leans into the final season's premise: the world reacting to the Wiskayok High team's return. Two newly released images show the teen ensemble — Samantha Hanratty's Misty, Kevin Alves's Travis, Courtney Eaton's Lottie, Nia Sondaya's Akilah, Sophie Nélisse's Shauna, Jasmin Savoy Brown's Taissa, Liv Hewson's Van and others — in rescue-era episodes credited to photographers Eric Milner and Darko Sikman. Alongside the stills, the show released an in-world MTV News segment in which anchor Serena Altschul reports on the excitement in Times Square over the survivors' return, and Alanis Morissette is shown dedicating her song "Ironic" to the survivors during an MTV Unplugged performance.

It is a canny bit of world-building. Yellowjackets has always treated the crash as a media event as much as a trauma — the adult timeline runs on talk shows, true-crime curiosity and public myth — and framing the homecoming through a period-perfect MTV News hit makes the point that the girls' ordeal is about to become everyone else's content. Bleeding Cool's earlier gallery coverage made the same observation from the images themselves: once the team is found, the story does not wind down; it changes genre.

Who Is Back, and What the Images Suggest

The returning ensemble is intact across both timelines: Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci and Tawny Cypress in the present day; Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton and Liv Hewson in the past; plus Warren Kole, Kevin Alves, Sarah Desjardins, Nia Sondaya, Jenna Burgess and Hilary Swank, per the season's credited cast lists in the image releases. Co-creators and co-showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson remain at the helm for the farewell run.

Read carefully — and this is interpretation, clearly flagged — the released stills sketch the season's shape. The teen timeline is moving out of the wilderness and into the machinery of return: parents, detectives, cameras. The adult timeline, meanwhile, pairs Misty with a mysterious new elder, which in this show's grammar usually means a secret is about to change hands. Cast members have teased a wild endgame in the outlets' coverage: Lynskey has called the finale surprising and fun, and Thatcher has said the rescue-era return to high-school settings was intense enough to trigger panic attacks during filming. None of that confirms plot — the show protects its twists fiercely — but it confirms tone: the final season intends to hurt.

The Endgame, on the Calendar

What is confirmed is the date and the destination: Season 4 premieres November 20, and it is the final season. Detailed episode scheduling has not been announced in the materials accompanying the images, and Previously will not invent one. What the rollout so far makes plain is that Paramount+ is treating the ending as an event — exclusive photo drops, an in-world news stunt, a gallery that keeps growing — rather than a quiet burn-off. For a series that became one of the defining puzzle-box dramas of the streaming era, the question was never whether the plane-crash mystery would end, but whether the women it made would get to.
