Avatar: Seven Havens Renewed for Seasons 3 and 4 — on Its Premiere Day

Paramount+ didn’t wait for a single ratings report. On the same day the first three episodes of Book 1 dropped, the streamer greenlit Books 3 and 4 of the animated Avatar sequel at New York Comic Con — and unveiled a second Avatar series on top of it.

Paramount+ didn’t wait for a single ratings report. On Friday, October 9 — the same day the first three episodes of Avatar: Seven Havens premiered on the streamer — the franchise’s stewards announced at New York Comic Con that the new animated series has already been renewed for Books 3 and 4, TV Guide reported. In the streaming era, a day-one renewal is rare. A day-one renewal for two more seasons is a statement.

01 What Seven Havens is, in one paragraph

Avatar: Seven Havens is the new animated sequel series to Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, TV Guide noted, and it flips the franchise’s central premise on its head. The story is set in a catastrophic world, centuries after the events of The Legend of Korra — TBS News reported the timeline sits 225 years after Korra’s era — and follows Pavi, a young Earthbender played by Saheli Khan, who discovers that she is the new Avatar. The twist, per TBS News and ComingSoon: this world does not view the Avatar as a hero. Pavi — and her long-lost twin sister Nisha, voiced by Aishu Devan — are seen as threats to humanity rather than its saviors, making them targets of both humans and spirits. The voice cast also includes Akshay Khanna, Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan, and Dee Bradley Baker, TBS News reported. We covered the Book 1 premiere in full here — this story is about what happens next.

02 A renewal on day one

The renewal news broke from the Seven Havens panel at New York Comic Con, where co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko told fans that Books 3 and 4 were officially greenlit on Paramount+, ComingSoon reported. They were joined on stage by executive producer Ethan Spaulding and co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi, alongside the voices of Pavi, Nisha, and Jae — Saheli Khan, Aishu Devan, and Major Curda. According to the Paramount+ announcement carried by The Futon Critic, the panel was moderated by Janet Varney, the original voice of Korra, and gave fans an exclusive look at how the series is made, including a “script to screen” behind-the-scenes clip.

The choice of the word “Books” is no accident: Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra both labeled their seasons as Books, and the franchise is keeping the tradition. Book 1 premiered on Paramount+ with its first three episodes on October 9; ComingSoon reported the rollout continues with episodes 4–6 on October 16, episodes 7–9 on October 23, and the final three episodes on October 30. And the show’s future was already partially secured before Friday: TBS News reported that a 13-episode second season was commissioned alongside the first, though its premiere date has not been announced. ComingSoon added that specific timelines for Books 2, 3, and 4 will be announced by Paramount+ at a later date. Renewals were something of a theme at this year’s convention — Marvel Television made its own animated-renewal moves at NYCC — but a two-season, day-one commitment stands apart.

03 A second Avatar series joins the slate

The renewal wasn’t the panel’s only surprise. The team also unveiled Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, a new Paramount+ original animated series billed as the next installment in the franchise, The Futon Critic reported — confirming TV Guide’s note that the project is also in the works. Bleeding Cool, covering the NYCC panel, reported that the series follows a rebellious teen Avatar learning the elements through globe-trotting chaos. Where Seven Havens pushes the timeline forward into a broken world, Kuruk reaches back into the franchise’s past: Kuruk was the waterbending Avatar who preceded Kyoshi and Aang, a figure the original series and its novels painted as a tragic, haunted hero. The Mac Observer reported that both projects will expand the franchise through Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios, with new stories exploring different periods in the Avatar timeline.

The panel also offered a sneak peek at Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, featuring character designs inspired by Seven Havens, ComingSoon reported — a signal that the franchise’s ambitions run beyond the screen.

04 What the renewal actually means

Read the shape of the deal and it’s hard not to see confidence. Paramount+ entered October with a single-season commitment to Seven Havens and leaves it with a four-season plan for the show — plus a second series in active development and a fighting game built around its art direction. That is franchise-building, not wait-and-see commissioning. For context, the streaming business has grown stingy about early renewals; most animated series have to prove themselves over a full season before a streamer bets big. Paramount+ bet big on day one.

The timing matters for another reason. As we’ve been tracking in our TV coverage, October 2026 has already been a loud month for renewals — from Tulsa King’s fifth season to Netflix picking up The Hunting Wives and A Different World, TV Guide reported. Paramount+ making its biggest animation move of the month for a show whose premiere episode count could be measured in hours tells you where the streamer thinks its long-term franchises live: in animation, in worlds fans have loved for two decades, and in creators — DiMartino and Konietzko — who have never handed the property to anyone else. The Avatar universe survived the end of Nickelodeon’s original run, survived a live-action detour, and survived Korra’s polarizing years. Now it’s being treated as infrastructure.

05 What to watch for

First, the immediate calendar. Book 1 of Seven Havens continues on Paramount+ every Friday through October 30, when the final three episodes of the 13-episode season land. Then the wait begins: TBS News reported that a second 13-episode season was commissioned alongside the first, but no premiere date has been announced, and ComingSoon reported that timelines for Books 2, 3, and 4 will follow at a later date. Expect Paramount+ to pace those announcements — it has four seasons of runway now and no reason to burn it.

Second, Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos. The panel’s announcement was heavy on title and light on timing, and the franchise has a history of moving deliberately between series — more than a decade separated The Last Airbender from The Legend of Korra. But the fact that Kuruk was announced on the same stage, on the same day, as a two-season Seven Havens renewal suggests the two shows are meant to share an era rather than take turns. And third, the games. The Avatar Legends fighting-game peek with Seven Havens-inspired character designs hints that Paramount’s plans for the twin Avatars extend past television. We’ll be tracking all of it — starting with everything else that broke at this year’s NYCC.
