Forty days out from November 19, the GTA VI watch is having its strangest week of the entire countdown. The anonymous leaker behind the cycle’s biggest “gameplay” drop just got publicly undercut by an IGN editor who actually saw Rockstar’s official preview — and the leak’s own paper trail, a Solana memecoin and a paid fan poll, looks worse by the day. Meanwhile the president of Nintendo of America declined to rule out a Switch 2 port in a new Variety interview. And underneath all of it, Rockstar’s real marketing machine is doing the one thing that actually moves the needle: showing the game itself.
02 The “Extended Leek” is coming apart
On Wednesday, the anonymous account known as Cyberleek released “GTA 6: An Extended Leek” — roughly 25 minutes of claimed gameplay footage, with PC Guide pinning the runtime at 24:49, landing 41 days before launch. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has commented on the upload, and nothing in it has been independently authenticated. Our full breakdown of the drop and the pushback is here; the short version is that the debunk signals are stacking up fast.
The strongest one comes from IGN editor Rachel Weber, who attended Rockstar’s official GTA 6 gameplay preview in July. Per Gameranx’s reporting on her response, the Cyberleek footage shows first-person mode — something Rockstar has denied is in the game — and it doesn’t match what she saw behind closed doors. Per Gameranx’s reporting on her response, Weber has also had to correct fan claims that her own preview coverage showed anything like a “full-frontal reveal” of Jason — it didn’t, and the rumor got bolted onto her reporting by leak-hungry corners of the internet.
Here’s the part the internet keeps forgetting: even genuinely real leaked footage isn’t the game. Weber’s warning to fans is that nobody knows how much of anything leaked survives into the final release. Treat every “leak” as a maybe from a maybe — and treat this one as a maybe from somebody who keeps getting paid.
The money problem is the real story of Cyberleek, and it’s the one the footage can’t outrun.

03 Follow the money: a memecoin launched three days before the footage
On-chain researchers found that the $CYBERLEEK crypto token on Solana launched on August 15, 2026 — three days before any footage from the leaker ever surfaced. Those same researchers reported that the leaker cashed out roughly $241,000 to $270,000 in token fees on August 27. That is not the financial footprint of a whistleblower. It’s the footprint of a business.
The timing keeps getting more convenient. The latest video dropped October 8 — the same day a paid token-holder poll closed, asking fans what they wanted to see next. And the campaign around Cyberleek keeps getting messier: the Stop Killing Games movement publicly distanced itself from the leaker back in August.
Then there’s the malware. A fake 113GB “GTA 6 download” that spread in August bundled malicious payloads, and security researchers at Huntress found circulating ISO files containing remote access trojans and ransomware. The guidance never changes, and it’s worth repeating every single time: do not download anything claiming to be the full game. It is either fake, malware, or both — and in this cycle it has frequently been all three.

04 Nintendo won’t rule out Switch 2
In a Variety interview centered on the live-action Legend of Zelda movie, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard was asked whether Grand Theft Auto VI could come to the Switch 2. She told Variety: “That’s going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.” Not a yes. And — this is the part fans are clinging to — not a no.
Context matters. GTA VI launches November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, with no PC date announced and no Switch 2 version announced. But Nintendo and Rockstar have real history: the Trilogy Definitive Edition shipped on the original Switch, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was a DS standout in 2009, and GBA entries go back further. Neither Red Dead Redemption 2 nor GTA V has made it to the Switch 2 yet — though L.A. Noire port studio Virtuos has publicly said its team is eager to adapt both games for the handheld.
The hardware argument is weaker than it used to be, too. The Switch 2 already runs Cyberpunk 2077 and a remastered The Witcher 3, and GTA VI is shipping on the less-powerful Xbox Series S. Whether Rockstar bothers with a port is the real question, and Pritchard’s answer is exactly what a platform holder says when the decision isn’t hers to make. For now, the door is open precisely one crack: it wasn’t slammed.

05 Forty days out: the real marketing is the news
Step back from the leak noise and look at what Rockstar itself actually did this week. On October 8, the company revealed six GTA VI radio stations — Cocoteo FM, Back Country Radio, AfroBank FM, The Chamber 106.6, Flash FM and Dirty South Classics — with artists ranging from Bad Bunny to Black Sabbath, and players able to listen on foot via the in-game phone, not just in cars. The same day, the official merch store opened. We covered the radio-station reveal in full — it’s the actual news of the week.
That’s the pattern that matters. With 40 days to go, the countdown is being filled by Rockstar’s own controlled reveals, not by leaks. After the game was pushed back from May to November 2026, Rockstar has kept its marketing tight and deliberate, and every official beat this week landed exactly on schedule. Leaks are theater with a tip jar. The radio stations are the game.
06 The fine print
One more thread worth tracking, per Kotaku’s reporting: the latest day of the Glasgow employment tribunal hearing over Rockstar’s 2025 developer firings brought the company’s HR representative under questioning about monitoring an IWGB union Discord channel — the so-called “mole” allegations — and about why Discord comments known since March and June 2025 only became an “urgent” firing offense in October 2025, days before Rockstar announced the delay from May to November 2026. The final hearing runs through October 16, right in the thick of launch season. That’s the whole watch this week: the noise is loud, but the signal — 40 days, two consoles, one Rockstar — hasn’t moved.
