Dwight Manfredi — “The General,” as Paramount+ bills him — closed out last season with his empire bigger, his chief rival reduced to ashes, and a brand-new problem: he wants to go legitimate. When Tulsa King returns Friday, October 16 on Paramount+, Sylvester Stallone’s mafia capo begins his hardest campaign yet — turning a criminal operation into a real business while the vultures circle. New episodes arrive weekly, with Decider reporting a 3:01 a.m. ET drop on premiere day, and all 29 episodes of the first three seasons are streaming now on Paramount+ for anyone who needs to catch up.
02 Where Season 3 left Dwight
The refresher, because it has been nearly a year. Season 3’s central war was fought over bourbon: Dwight set his sights on buying Montague Distilleries, while Jeremiah Dunmire (Robert Patrick), a churchgoing tyrant of the local liquor trade, wanted the business — and the town’s booze trade — for himself. Early in the season, Dunmire’s men burned distillery patriarch Theo Montague alive in his own home for selling to Dwight, and as one recap noted, the finale answered that scene directly.
The war turned personal when Jeremiah kidnapped Dwight’s sister Joanne (Annabella Sciorra), the distillery’s legal owner, hoping to squeeze Dwight out — or risk her life trying. Jeremiah’s own son, Cole (Beau Knapp), broke ranks: guilt-ridden after seeing what his father had done, he told Dwight where Joanne was being held and handed over a map of the Dunmire estate, complete with the numbers and weapons of Jeremiah’s men, SoapCentral reported.
And then there was the late-season arrival that changed everything. Samuel L. Jackson debuted as Russell Lee Washington Jr., a hitman dispatched by New York mobster Quiet Ray (James Russo) with orders to kill Dwight. But Russell had history with his target — a stretch in federal prison where, as the recaps describe it, Dwight had once saved his life — and he couldn’t pull the trigger. Instead, Lee joined forces with Dwight, and the two wiped out Quiet Ray’s hitmen together, freeing Russell from Ray’s control.
The finale, “Jesus Lizard,” aired November 23, 2025, and it was a bloodbath with a moral. Dwight’s crew hit the Dunmire compound in a pre-dawn raid; Dwight dragged Jeremiah out of the fight, hoisted him above a bonfire pit, reminded him of the Montague patriarch he had burned alive — and set him on fire, per ScreenRant’s account. The season opened and closed on the same crime.
The business closed the loop too. FBI agent Musso (Kevin Pollak), who had spent the season holding Dwight’s freedom over his head, handed over the Federal Basic Permit and Alcohol Tax and Trade Bureau approval for the distillery — and Dwight handed him a drive containing Deacon’s confession, a devil’s bargain for another day, Collider reported. And Russell Lee Washington Jr. raised a glass to the crew, saying their success made him want to start his own thing — the first open hint of what would become the Frisco King spinoff.

03 What Season 4 is about
The official line from Paramount+ is dark. According to the streamer, Dwight “fights to legitimize his empire and protect his crew as corrupt politicians, dangerous new enemies, and a crushing personal loss hit from every direction” — and that every hard-won gain comes with harder truths about “loyalty, leadership and the cost of ambition.” The Season 4 trailer, released in late September, has Dwight warning that if he finds out whose fault the coming trouble is, “bad things are gonna happen to bad people,” according to Decider.
The most visible new face is Gretchen Mol, who joins as a series regular playing Tulsa politician Amanda Clark — a character squarely in the corrupt-politicians column of the season’s setup, per Paramount+’s casting announcement. The returning ensemble is deep: Martin Starr, Jay Will, Vincent Piazza, Annabella Sciorra, Chris Caldovino, McKenna Quigley Harrington, Frank Grillo, Mike “Cash Flo” Walden, James Russo, Kevin Pollak, Neal McDonough, Garrett Hedlund and Dana Delany, per Radio Times.
Behind the camera, the season marks a homecoming of its own: Terence Winter, who ran Season 1, is back as head writer and executive producer after Season 3 showrunner Dave Erickson exited, Decider reported. Winter — whose credits include The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire — now steers the show into its most consequential chapter. 04 Already renewed — and moving east
One paragraph on the future, because our Oct. 6 renewal story has the full breakdown: Paramount+ announced on October 5 that Tulsa King will return for Season 5, less than two weeks before Season 4 premieres. Production is already underway in New York — after the first four seasons shot in Atlanta — with the new storyline sending Dwight back to his New York mafia roots. Scarlet Rose Stallone, who has played Spencer in all four seasons, has been promoted to series regular, and four new series regulars are joining: Erik Palladino (I Play Rocky), Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Anthony Skordi (The Last Frontier) and Nickola Shreli (Power Book IV: Force).
05 The spinoff: Frisco King
The Tulsa King universe is expanding regardless of what happens in Tulsa. Paramount+ is developing Frisco King, a spinoff built around Jackson’s Russell Lee Washington Jr. — the hitman who declined his assignment to kill Dwight and set out to build his own enterprise in Frisco, Texas. Creator Taylor Sheridan will write all eight episodes of the first season himself, Paramount+ confirmed, with filming underway in the Fort Worth area. No premiere date has been announced.

06 The numbers behind the confidence
The early Season 5 renewal isn’t a bluff. Season 2’s premiere drew 21.1 million viewers worldwide, which Memorable TV reported as Paramount+’s biggest global premiere ever at the time — a record that explains why the streamer was willing to commit to another season before Season 4 had aired a single episode. For a show that began in 2022 with a New York mobster exiled to Oklahoma — a one-way ticket for keeping his mouth shut through 25 years in prison, as Parade put it — it has become one of the most dependable franchises in streaming. Friday is its biggest test yet. Find more of our TV coverage in the TV section.
