At midnight on Thursday, November 19, Grand Theft Auto VI unlocks. Sixteen hours later, at 4:30 in the afternoon, the first Formula 1 cars of the weekend roll out of the pit lane and onto Las Vegas Boulevard. One event empties the streets — everybody who cares is indoors, controller in hand. The other fills them, closing the most famous road in America so twenty cars can race down it at night. They land on the same day, in the same city, and Las Vegas is the only place on Earth where that sentence is true.
Every outlet on the planet will cover these as two stories. Fair enough — one is a video game, the other is a Grand Prix. But they will sleep in the same hotels and draw on the same workforce. Both will play on the same screens. And the roads jammed by one are jammed for the other. Four days of it. That collision is the story.
Start with the game — the bigger draw of the two. Rockstar's own GTA VI page says it plainly — "Coming November 19, 2026" — for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC version announced. The last numbered Grand Theft Auto launched on September 17, 2013. Thirteen years between entries is not a release cycle. It is a generational wait. The date wobbled getting here — first fall 2025, then May 26, 2026 — before Take-Two confirmed November 19 in November 2025 and never budged since.
The launch has a timetable of its own. Rockstar says digital preloading opens Tuesday, November 10, at local midnight. The game then sits on your console, locked, for nine days. It unlocks at local midnight on the 19th, per IGN's confirmation of Rockstar's global release times. Take-Two's pre-order materials price the standard edition at $79.99. Inside the game: Jason and Lucia, a pair of small-time criminals in over their heads across the state of Leonida, with Vice City at its center — Rockstar's own synopsis puts them "on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America." French duo Justice composed the original score, and a 34-track soundtrack album arrives the same day, per Hypebeast's reporting on Rockstar's official pages.
The marketing has already reached the real map. This month, USA Today reported GTA VI marketing rolling out across Miami-Dade — the county Vice City mirrors — and Previously has covered Miami-Dade's own $3.9 million GTA VI deal: a real place dressing its arena and its airport in a fictional city's colors, its port too, days before the fiction goes on sale. Even Hollywood scheduled around it — the new Hunger Games film, Sunrise on the Reaping, opens in North American theaters on November 20, one day after launch, into a weekend the game already owns.
Now the race. The Formula 1 Heineken Las Vegas Grand Prix runs Thursday, November 19 through Saturday, November 21, per Formula 1's own event listing, on the Las Vegas Strip Circuit: 3.8 miles, 17 turns, 50 laps, down the Boulevard past Caesars Palace and the Bellagio fountains, by the Venetian, around the Sphere and back. Formula 1's circuit guide puts its average speeds in Monza territory. It is the fastest room in the city, built out of the city's main street.
The Las Vegas Grand Prix's official schedule runs all three days in the same shape: gates at 2:30 p.m., everything after dark. Thursday is first practice at 4:30 and second practice at 8. Friday: final practice at 4:30, qualifying at 8. Saturday's race starts at 8 p.m. Pacific, with the F1 Academy feature race as the undercard — and when the podium empties, the official post-race show takes over Sphere, where the Backstreet Boys headline the F1 Afterparty. Track roads close at 1 p.m. on race day and do not reopen until 2 a.m., per the organizers' published closure schedule. By then, weeks of build-out have already snarled the city's traffic.
Last year's edition set the weekend's tone. Max Verstappen won the 2025 race. Then both McLarens — Lando Norris, second on the road, and Oscar Piastri, fourth — were disqualified hours later, their skid blocks worn below the legal minimum. That handed George Russell and Kimi Antonelli the remaining podium places, as Formula 1 reported in its own weekend roundup. Verstappen still owns the circuit's fastest lap, a 1:33.365. Chaos is not a risk at this race; it is the house style — and Formula 1 has already extended the Vegas deal through 2037. This weekend is not a visit. It is a residency.
Read Thursday, November 19 as one day. It starts at midnight, in living rooms — a city's worth of screens lighting up with Leonida. By 4:30 the day has moved to the Boulevard: first practice, on the street, under a sky that will be dark before the session ends. Two crowds moving in opposite directions through the same few blocks — one that flew in to stand outside at night, one that has waited thirteen years to sit down.
Eleven days out, the smart money in this town says the two events feed each other: the launch gives race weekend a second screen, and the race gives the launch a city already mid-party. Neither one cannibalizes the other. Each is the other's afterparty.
Previously's GTA VI program runs straight through launch, and this desk covers race weekend from inside the same few blocks. Midnight first. Then the gates.
