LONDON
Six seasons in, the disgraced spies of Slough House are sitting on top of the service. Slow Horses has climbed to No. 1 on Apple TV's TV chart, overtaking Ted Lasso, after its fifth Season 6 episode aired on Wednesday, October 14 — a milestone first reported by Men's Journal on October 15 and backed by FlixPatrol data showing the series at No. 1 in dozens of countries, including the United States.
The timing tells the story. Ted Lasso's fourth season aired its finale on October 7, and with its closest chart rival done for the year, Slow Horses moved into the top spot the following week. Silo, which concluded its third season in September, sits third on the TV chart, while Matchbox tops Apple TV's film chart. For a series built around MI5's least wanted, beating the platform's flagship feel-good comedy — even in a handover week — is a genuine marker of how far the show's audience has grown.
One episode left: the finale lands October 21
Season 6 runs six episodes, like the five seasons before it, and the run ends on Wednesday, October 21 with the finale, Judgment Day. Decider's episode guide gives the official shape of it in a short synopsis: the safe house becomes unsafe, and Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner finally join forces. Apple TV's usual release pattern means North American viewers can typically start streaming the night before — Tuesday, October 20 at 9 p.m. ET — ahead of the official Wednesday date.

Episode 5 set the finale's stakes high — spoilers stop here, but the closing stretch leaves River Cartwright in serious danger and the Slough House team scattered at exactly the moment they need to be a unit. A Lamb–Taverner alliance, however reluctant, is the kind of endgame pairing the series has been circling for years: the two represent opposite poles of the intelligence world Lamb was exiled from, and the show is at its best when it forces them into the same room.
The new face in Slough House
Part of this season's freshness comes from a new recruit. Lenny Rush joined the cast as Reece Nesmith, and his arrival has become one of Season 6's talking points — including, in comments reported this week, his account of being welcomed by Gary Oldman and the ensemble despite arriving six years into a tight-knit production. Rush described Oldman briefly and warmly in comments reported by Men's Journal this week — "He's such a nice guy and so great," Rush said — and he credited the whole cast with making time for a newcomer. It is a small detail that says a lot about why the show keeps working: the company refreshes itself without losing the chemistry that made it.

The future is already settled
Unlike most shows riding a chart high into a finale, Slow Horses does not have to campaign for its life. The series is already renewed well beyond Season 6: Season 7 will adapt Mick Herron's Bad Actors, with Clown Town set for Season 8 — Previously covered the Season 8 renewal and its source novel when it landed. That security changes the finale's job. Judgment Day does not need to save the show; it needs to close Season 6's story cleanly and set the board for a seventh run expected in fall 2027.
There is a broader point in the chart news, too. Apple TV's top tier is now anchored by a six-season-old spy drama with a famously unglamorous visual palette and a lead performance built on insults, raincoats and flatulence jokes. Word of mouth, not launch marketing, put it there — each season has widened the audience, and the Season 6 run has converted that slow build into the platform's No. 1 series at the exact moment its story peaks.
It also helps that the series has never diluted its source material's appeal. Mick Herron's Slough House novels give the show a deep bench of plot — every season adapts a book, and the pipeline of future stories is visible years ahead, which is precisely why Apple TV could commit to Seasons 7 and 8 with confidence. In an era when streamers routinely cancel dramas after two seasons and leave their stories unfinished, a six-season run with two more already secured — and a chart-topping week to show for it — puts Slow Horses in a small and enviable class.
How to watch the finale
Slow Horses streams exclusively on Apple TV, where all six seasons are available. Episode 5 is streaming now, and the Season 6 finale, Judgment Day, arrives Wednesday, October 21 — effectively Tuesday night in North America. New viewers have time for a five-episode catch-up before Lamb closes the season. For more streaming finales and renewals, follow Previously's TV coverage and browse what's streaming.
The schedule around the finale is worth noting for anyone planning a catch-up. Episode 5, Sayonara, is the season's penultimate hour and, by the accounts of the guides tracking the run, it ends by putting River in jeopardy and the team on the back foot — the classic Slow Horses arrangement, in which the finale has to rescue its own people before it can save anyone else. Six episodes also means the entire season can be watched in a single weekend, which is part of how a weekly-release show still ends up bingeing its way up a chart in finale week.
The slow horses finish first this week. On October 21, they get to prove it was not a fluke.
