Origins in 2017 changed the contract. Set in Ptolemaic Egypt, it rebuilt combat around hitboxes, added levels, loot and a vast explorable country, and told the founding story of the Brotherhood through Bayek of Siwa. Odyssey pushed further into full role-playing, with dialogue choices, romance options and multiple endings in ancient Greece, and Valhalla added a settlement to build and raids to lead in Viking Age England.
Some fans loved the scale and freedom; others missed the tighter social stealth and one-hit assassinations of the classic games. Mirage in 2023 was Ubisoft's deliberate answer, a smaller, stealth-first return to Baghdad built around one city and careful infiltration. The vault should present this honestly, as a real design argument the series is still having with itself — not as one era simply replacing another.
