The franchise today is defined by Assassin's Creed Shadows. Released on March 20, 2025 and developed by Ubisoft Quebec, it is the fourteenth main installment and the successor to Mirage. Its feudal Japan setting — long the most requested destination in the series — pairs Fujibayashi Naoe, a shinobi from Iga, with Yasuke, the historical African samurai in service to Oda Nobunaga, so stealth and direct combat sit side by side in one game.
Around it, the back catalogue has never been more available, with remasters and collections keeping Ezio, Edward and the RPG trilogy in circulation. The open question is balance: how big, how role-playing and how stealth-led the next chapter should be. Shadows does not settle that argument, but it proves the core idea still travels — any century, any city, one hidden blade.
