Three timeline views
Assassin's Creed can be read three ways, and a good vault should offer all three.
In this Vault
- Chapter A — Franchise origins — parkour and stealth
- Chapter B — Assassins vs Templars
- Chapter C — Three timeline views
- Chapter D — Protagonists and settings
- Chapter E — Ezio and the early legacy
- Chapter F — Naval adventure — Black Flag
- Chapter G — RPG era vs classic stealth
- Chapter H — Modern day and the Isu — mythology
- Chapter I — Where the franchise is now
Assassin's Creed can be read three ways, and a good vault should offer all three. Release order is how players actually lived the series, from the 2007 original through Shadows in 2025, with each sequel building on the systems and story ideas of the last. Historical order runs backwards through time itself, opening with Odyssey in Peloponnesian War Greece and ending in Victorian London in Syndicate.
Story order is the trickiest view: it follows the modern-day framing and the way past lives connect across games, so trilogies like Ezio's stay together even when a later game jumps centuries earlier. None of these views is the single correct one. Release order teaches the design, historical order teaches the sweep, and story order teaches the saga — which is why the vault keeps them side by side.
